BNZ Kiwihoops Bounce - Year 1 and 2
This is a new entrant competition where kids get their first taste of playing basketball.
The focus of BNZ Kiwihoops Bounce is on developing fundamental movement skills and basic basketball skills. Modified games are non-competitive with a focus on enjoyment and participation.
BNZ Kiwihoops Mini - Year 3 and 4
The focus of BNZ Kiwihoops Mini is on developing basic basketball skills and refining fundamental movement skills.
Modified games are non-competitive with the focus on enjoyment and participation.
BNZ Kiwihoops Pro - Year 5 and 6
The focus of BNZ Kiwihoops Pro is on developing basketball skills while continuing to practice and refine movement skills.
The emphasis is on applying the basic skills and decision making to game-like situations and introducing basic offence and defence concepts. Games focus remains on the learning and developing, not the outcome (winning).
BNZ Kiwihoops All Stars - Year 7 and 8
The focus of BNZ Kiwihoops All Stars is on refining basic basketball skills and learning more technical skills.
The emphasis is on applying skills and decision making to game-like situations and introducing team offence and defence strategies. The general game focus remains on the learning and developing, not the outcome (winning) while some players will have reached a developmental stage to be able play competitively

Basketball Otago are proud delivery partners with Basketball New Zealand, BNZ Kiwihoops Basketball Competition!
Offering for year groups 1-8, our competition is designed to help kids learn, develop, and love the game. Split into aged groups this competitions helps children get their first taste of basketball, and then guides them through to refining their movement and technical skills.
These games are played on Monday and Thursday nights at the Edgar Centre during Term 2 and 3.
BNZ Kiwi Hoops is Basketball New Zealand’s national basketball programme for tamariki. It uses basketball activities and games-based learning to build fundamentals and support tamariki to develop their confidence and grow their love for the game. The programme also provides best practice tools and resources for coaches, teachers, parents, volunteers and administrators to ensure all tamariki can play basketball in a safe and enjoyable environment.
