The Momentum Agency Otago Toroa are the champions of the inaugural BBNZ Men's TUPU League!
Momentum Agency Otago Toroa - 97
Harbour Heat - 65
In what promised to be a clash of the titans between the undefeated Otago and Harbour, it was the hosts who started strongly and forced the Heat into an early timeout. The visitors responded well but it was Otago's very own U20 rep player, Chris Christof, who caught fire in the second quarter hitting three triples in a remarkable series of possessions to extend the lead before halftime.
Throughout the tournament, Head Coach Sam Fielding's wealth of scoring options was evident, and it was on full display once again as Robbie Coman then knocked down three triples of his own in the third quarter to extinquish any hopes of a Harbour comeback.
Coman once again led the charge for Otago with 27 points and was joined in double-digits by Chris Christof (18 pts), Mitch Hughan (15 pts) and captain Josh Aitcheson (15 pts).
As the final buzzer sounded, the home crowd erupted as Otago were crowned champions of the inaugural BBNZ Men's TUPU League. An incredible achievement for the players. coaches and support staff who had given up their time to represent our region on the national stage.
Both Robbie Coman and Matt Bardsley were named in the All-Star Five and Coman captured the MVP award for a dominant display of performances throughout the tournament.
Basketball Otago wishes to extend our gratitude to all players, coaches, support staff, officials, volunteers, associations and Basketball New Zealand for an amazing tournament held right here in Dunedin! It was a truly amazing end to the 2024 season!
